My two cents is I'm preparing to move to Shopify after a lot of consideration. It just has some really slick integrations and the interface is very pleasant. It is a bit more costly than my current solution, SnipCart. Prior to looking at SnipCart I was eyeing Shoprocket. It is a great product, but didn't suit my specific needs as well as I'd have liked. There is also Celery, which seems pretty straightforward, but I haven't used it personally. Just keep in mind there are plenty of great platforms out there, but you need to use the one that ultimately fits your needs.

Hi Michelle,I ran through this exercise before i set my emails up and by far the best (that i found and for my needs) was google for work.https://www.google.com/work/For me i pay $5 per month on each email address, i can add alias (info for example) for free and it also gives you 30GB of google drive space. Not to mention the emails never break because its google and you have full access everywhere as its a cloud based solution. I would always recommend google for work for emails, cloud storage, etc.Let me know if you need any more help.

Have you ever employed a web developer/designer?

I personally haven't employed any. However, web design and front-end development are both skills I have. I've also partnered with more technical people in the past. What type of information are you looking for? Or what would you find helpful to know?

Is there a way to link FB,Twitter,Instagram etc so you only need to post something one and it goes automatically to all?

Jef LippiattOwner at Startup Chucktown
I would also recommend looking at Buffer (which is similar to Hootsuite).Another alternative to checkout is IF or IFTTT also known as "If This Then That". It is a mobile app that has tons of easy to setup integrations. It can work around some of the issues mentioned above (like turning a picture into a link - it will keep a picture intact across networks for example). There is 1 counterpoint I want to mention. There are several sources that are telling people and businesses not to use functions like this for 1 reason. Each social network has its strong points and weaknesses. You should not only tailor your content to your audience, but also the specific social network.Remember focused content directed toward your target audience is more important that frequently blasting out the exact same content across Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest, etc. If you are sharing the same content on all channels why would anyone follow you on more than 1 channel?
Sputnik Sputnik
Sure. Sort of. You can link SOME social media platforms via their own functionality. Ie Twitter and Facebook talk together no problems. Now that FB own IG you can also set up IG to post to FB directly also. But if you want to do them all you may find the best way is to use a 3rd party program like Hootsuite of tweetdeck.

What are some of the best ways to promote a new website?

A question that would benefit from some additionalinformation (in addition to the site’s newness) as it is impossible to respond constructively to such generalisation Michelle. Why do you want to promote it? What douse it contain? Who are likely to find it of most value? What makes it so outstanding that it is worthy of promotion?Without some specifics all you are likely to attract is a avalanche of random viewpoints potentially irreverent and maybe even detrimental to your purpose.

Make sure your website is response and adaptive in design (one website works across all devices). Any business that has a "Mobile Version" of their website has hacked off some of the information or functionality and I don't appreciate it when trying to find things.Keep in mind that just because the content "shrinks" to display on smaller devices the layout of the content doesn't need to remain identical to the desktop version. That also applies to navigation. The same links should be available, but they don't have to be presented in the same style or location.Mobile is important, so make it a prioirty.

This article has great content, however, at first, I wondered where the content was? It wasn't expecting all the images and got lost reading the headings. It took a couple of goes to figure it all out. But once I got past the images and realised that they were the content, I found the article quite helpful. Selina

What's the difference between domain name endings such as .tv and .me etc?

I'm not sure why I would buy these domain names. read more

These are ccTLDs (Country Code Top Level Domain) and refer to the top level domain for a specific country eg .au = Australia, .nz = New Zealand and .us = United States. TLDs (Top Level Domains) are non country specific eg .com, .net and .org Others such as .asia are sponsored TLDs.
Jacqui PryorDirector at Mark My Words Trademark Services Pty Ltd
This could depend on who you ask or where you look for an answer! .me is the top level domain for Montenegro and .tv is the top level domain for Tuvulu. But these days they are recognised more so as: .tv - often seen as the 'television' domain so sites with this domain would likely include video content or streaming content etc. .me - often used for personal blogs, pages and sites "individualname.me". Can be registered to pretty much anyone anywhere so don't have to have  a business registration etc like you might with a .au name.

How do I get my own domain name?

Reetha joy
You can create your own Domain Name by the Domain Registration service from Tucktail.com .Here they provide domain name you own to your website,Domain Forwarding and Masking, Auto renew keeps your domains, hosting, website builders, and other products in your name and under your control.
Matt AntoninoOwner at Pay On Performance
If you want a .com, you can register it almost anywhere, such as Godaddy.com If you want a .com.au, you'll need to use a registrar such as http://www.ziphosting.com.au/ You will need a business ABN (they say "related" but realistically, this isn't much of a hurdle as long as you have an ABN.) Once you have a domain name, you'll need hosting. The type you need depends on the type of site you're going to be hosting.

What's the difference between Shared hosting, Virtual Private Server (VPS) and dedicated hosting?

Asked by:
Phil Joel Director at SavvySME
Ananda Raj PandeyCTO at SavvySME
Shared Hosting: In this type of hosting, a single server will have many sites hosted. User can get single hosting solution or reseller package for the shared hosting providers. Eventully eveything this will be hosted in the same server and thus server is  shared with other hosters. This type of hosting is low cost and good for the starters, but server has limitation on resources like cpu / memory per domain hosted. So need to check  terms and conditions before joinning the service. VPS: is a personal server / or vitual server which will be hosted in a machince which may have more VPS server hosted. In this option, user will have own server so lots of freedom on server management, tweaks and custom settings, which are not possible with share hosting. server resources like cpu / memory will be shared with other VPS user in the same machine.  Dedicated server: User with  own dedicated server, which is a single machine with one single server dedicated to user, its is much more similar to vps, but machine resources is not shared with others. So 100% cpu . 100% memory. While in VPS if one of the vps user of the same machine has more cpu constain job, other vps user will have slow performance.

Questions

What should I look for in a Web hosting partner?

Asked by:
Phil Joel Director at SavvySME
Some great answers above. I agree totally with Russell's first comment, Great Support, its essential. Yep the other points made are all valid too, infrastructure, no fly-by-nights etc. Recommendations go along way so ask around and get people experiences. I'm not sure I agree with the must be Australian hosted for Aussie websites rule, we have always hosted out of the US and had no issues with speed, load times or rankings, maybe because our name servers are .com.au perhaps. Our host have 24x7 email support and for the few occasions they needed to be contacted they were on the case every time immediately and being based in an English speaking country communication was easy. We have been with our hosting company for around 6 years and have three webservers hosted in various US data centres.
Sam ( Sameer) ShettyGeneral Manager at NetRegistry
Couple of factors to consider  1) load speed of websites . Google is  concerned about the load speed of websites. If your website takes a longer time to load , it is bad user experience and will also effect your SEO.  2)Hosting a website on a cloud infrastructure will give you a better performance than those hosted on a single server , Cpanel setup 3)Location of the data center , having it locally in Australia is better. Some hosting providers offer SLA and 99.99 % uptime  4) 24x 7 telephone , email support
