Golf is a simple game and so is business

I was talking to my father who is a mad keen golfer and he mentioned Seve Ballesteros. Seve passed away a few years ago at a very young age. He was one of the most exciting golf talents of his generation.

I was reminded of a media interview that Seve gave many years ago. A reporter was asking him to explain the way he approached golf. The reporter was looking for a detailed explanation about grip, psychology, or something similar.

Seve just answered ‘Hit the ball, in the hole.”

The reporter didn’t like that answer and kept on coming at him for the ‘Real’ answer.

Seve stuck to his answer ‘Hit the ball, in the hole”

How does this help you when you are fighting fires, and so busy you don’t have time to think?

It’s deceptively simple, but not necessarily easy to implement.

It is really easy to get lost in the maze of Mission Statements, Vision, KPI’s, massively detailed reporting, and just plain being busy when we are in our business.

Just like the Seve Ballesteros approach to golf we can usually sum up what the outcome of or game is.

In Business, at least for me it is very simple.

How we do it requires more details at times, just like a golfers grip can have a massive impact on their game.

The main game remains the same.
