Open letter to a prospect : your sh*t is broken.

Your sh*t is broken.

There it is I have said it: Your shit is broken.

Yes I know it’s a bit rude and I shouldn’t swear like that but for most of my business relations, this probably isn’t surprising.

In my world and in my business – I have a tendency to say things as they are, simply because I want to be human, I want to be authentic and more importantly because I’d like to get your stuff done and to do that – I need your help. I need you to be honest about your business goals, your failures, how much money you are making and what you want your business to reflect. To do that – I need you to tell me the plain truth about where you are at and the struggles that you have right now: so that together we can work on your stuff and prevent your shit from being broken.

SME marketing is my thing – that’s what I set out to do. That’s why I got out of a well -paying corporate career. It’s what makes me tick. I have created systems and a team with strong skills and we can get you a lot more leads, a system that works and a better direction.

My goal is to grow your business, to make it strong, to make it sustainable – that’s a pretty big mission. Sometimes it’s easy – sometimes it’s harder but I will give you my best shot in the relationship and in the outcomes – this can’t be done without honesty on both sides. I will place you in front of the right people, give you the best branding ideas, work on your systems and fuel innovation in your business.

Your business’ mission becomes mine and this extends to my team. I have trained them to respect you and give you the best of themselves. Marketing isn’t easy – it needs consistency and finesse and I will keep you accountable, we aren’t magicians and we can’t run your business for you but we can help you make it better, stronger and more resilient. Nowadays your customers are  not only getting information online, considering options but also have the ability to break up with you at any time – your overall business proposition should be very strong to make it less likely that they will start a relationship somewhere else.

I don’t want you to be transactional – that’s the old way of doing business. I want you to tell a story in your branding, your messages, your strategy and I want you to tell a good one.

Occasionally when I peek through your website and see pixelated images, SEO that’s non-existent, no CRM system or very little systemisation – as a marketer I get worried – very worried. I am also annoyed that you were sold crap services by amateurs who don’t care. As a small business owner who understands the pressure of what you are going through – I want to tell you the truth, I want to tell you that your shit is broken but you won’t let me – because ego, fear, financial constraints and all sorts of things get in the way.

I want to tell you that the branding you got done for $50.00 looks tacky, that the website you were sold at $7000.00 doesn’t work and that buying fake Facebook likes isn’t cool but you won’t let me.

What happens then? Your business remains the same and your marketing remains dusty and outdated, your site underperforms, you remain the best kept secret in your industry, you don’t close as many people as you should and I am left thinking that it didn’t have to be like that. It could have been so much better.

So next time – please open up to me and give me a chance to tell you that your shit is broken but repairable and that I’d like to make that my mission if you accept to give me the right information to work with and to collaborate with me day in day out to create the right outcome.

If only you let me.

Shit is just a four letter word – don’t take it too seriously.
