I speak to a lot of business owners and when I ask them this question, no is the common answer. Should I? Umm well yes, doesn’t it make sense? If you don’t know who your target audience is, how can you write something which would be of interest or relevance to them?
Think about it. Once you sit down to analyse who your audience is, your posts will resonate with your target audience on a deeper level and become more pertinent and compelling.
Take some time to think about who it is you are trying to attract. Is it someone in a similar field? Your customers? Your clients? Mothers? Writers? Who are you attempting to relate to?
Focus on their gender, age, income, beliefs, attitudes, values and behaviours. Create a model reader and learn to base your blog posts or articles on that specific person.
Really hone down and focus on your audience and then work on your subjects; again decisively narrow them down in order that you can determine what kind of things they may want to read.
You ideally want to create your own niche so that people who are interested in your specific topic will keep coming back for more. Having a general blog or website will fail to attract a defined readership and your blog posts may be hit and miss when it comes to your chosen topics and what your readers may want.

This is the only way to write providing your target isn't too broad and varied. You need to speak the language of your tribe and followers, otherwise they won't tune in at all.

Thanks for this article :)!! narrowing down the topic us actually huge. I find generalist articles less interesting if I'm really involved in a topic. :)
