Does Your Website Appear where People are Looking?

Web Development

Do you sell direct to business? Sensis e-Business Report (2012) mentions that 82% of all SMEs look for information online (often before buying online).  Sensis also reports that on average, 58 per cent of Australians with mobile phones now use their phone to access the internet, up from 50 per cent the previous year. Of all mobile smart phone users, 62 per cent have looked for information on products and services in the last 12 months. So what does this mean for you and your brand?

Did you ever come to a website (while on your mobile) and try to pull down the tiny menu tabs, and zoom right in on the wordy text (always in grey)?  Frustrating isn't it?  Some people actually still use Flash websites, which means they don't appear at all on iPads. Doh. If only these guys had an on-trend website developer, preferably on speed dial.

In fact, even I can just add an updated theme or plug-in to my WordPress website, and hey presto, it shows easy navigation bars for mobile users. (Away I go to update my theme).

Designing Email for Mobile Devices

Besides having a 'responsive website' theme or plugin, there are other elements of marketing you can re-think now.

You can design email campaigns to fit snugly into a mobile phone screen. It's OK, you don't have to get a code handbook… you just select the type in the MailChimp or AWeber email pre-formatted newsletter. Lyris also has some interesting photos that shows how top end companies do it. http://blog.lyris.com/us/email-inspiration-six-more-great-responsive-email-designs/

If you presently offer eBooks as full size, also consider that many device users welcome the short page, making it easy as pie to read the pages electronically. ePub is a publishing format that is read by many devices (except for Kindle).

In the website industry it is our job to keep on-trend with browser and device compatibility, and we all welcome the day that old IE (Internet Explorer) dies a sweet death... but you too should check your website 'estates' are coming up nicely, clearly, and helpfully in the common mobile technology of today.
