I definitely agree with this article. I will say the hardest part can be keeping up with it (or keeping the content fresh). I write on 2 to 5 blogs in a given week and some of them are wildly different when talking about the covered subject matter. But even if you aren't posting multiple times a week or even multiple times a month you can still drive meaningful traffic and results with content that is tuned specifically for the given audience. Always remember quality over quantity.

John, I agree that the infographic in this article was much too long. In my opinion the "never ending" infographic's day has passed. If you use short infographics that are very focused, I think they can still be beneficial. But always remember who the audience is, what they are trying to get out of your article.
Definitely, this reads like something penned at least 5 to 8 years ago, back in the infographic's hay-day, even though the accredited sources are only two or three years old. There are many influences (both old and new), that have seen the demise of infographics over the years. They remain one effective way of depicting statistical information, when the statistics are informative or better still enlightening. This example unfortunately serves neither purpose.

Definitely some great advice. I will say one that wasn't mentioned (and that I'm still not great at myself) is reusing existing content. I know many people that reshare content from several months ago or refresh something from a year ago to make it more relevant. However, I still struggle to apply this knowledge. I feel that at times I get stuck thinking I should always be creating new material. The reason I think about this is the "new" customers you attract may not know or look for the helpful content you created before they knew about your business. Just something to think about.

Thanks everyone for the feedback. John you may be interested to know they changed the headline I originally had which would have made you fear Clickbait even more (An intentional ploy). Deborah, thanks for your comments and Jef, thanks as always for yours. I agree that frequency is absolutely important. I think that boils down to context to a large extent too though. But it is a worthy point to single out, so thank you.
Jef Lippiatt
Jef LippiattOwner at Startup Chucktown
I think context really is the key. However, context doesn't just mean how well related to my audience is this article and my business. Frequency is also a part of context. I've seen numerous small businesses blasting "status updates" or "tweets" at a 1 to 2 per minute or 2 to 3 per 5 minute clip. I mean how does that local roofing company really think I want to hear from them that frequently? Even if the content is useful or interesting, the answer is no. Context must take frequency into consideration.

John, I agree with your thoughts about plagiarism in this article. I was there - my well-researched article was once stolen and republished by other person. The most embarrassing part was that the stolen article received a positive acclaim from readers, likes, shares and comments.... Fortunately, I proved that I was the author of the piece ( I had to attach screenshots and plagiarism report from Unplag.com). Content writers, freelancers and journalists have to defend their authorship, because creating original stories is a part of their jobs. Of course, you can't stop the plagiarism rush, but you could point to original source of the materials and gain an advantage from this situation.
Jef Lippiatt
Jef LippiattOwner at Startup Chucktown
Definitely an important topic. I've seen this done across several blogs. I've also seen entire articles copied and the only thing that was changed were the article's images. On LinkedIn, I've even seen regular professionals copy and paste another's LinkedIn article and posted as if their own from the sense of "helping spread the message" instead of liking and/or just sharing that individuals article. I would call that unintended plagiarism (but having good intentions doesn't mean you still aren't infringing or at the very least confusing others).

Very well stated points. I definitely see the benefit from getting an outside perspective on my material from time to time. I think another thing that is helpful is a content and copy guidelines document. This isn't meant to replace a copywriter rather enhance understanding. A copywriter can't help with every single written piece of communication. The guideline helps people keep the proper brand voice and tone intact for smaller tasks and communications.

Thanks for sharing. I agree the more you write, the less you feel blocked (usually). I think another way to inspire yourself is to read articles by other people constantly. Hi guys, Thank you for your comments. Jeff, yes indeed. Blog posts can be very informative. Jef, you're right - one challenge with blogging, especially if you'd like to cover a number of platforms, is finding the time and resources to create quality posts. However, I feel that one, solid post is worth more than multiple, rushed posts that offer little value to its readers. One thing that has helped our company with output is to work with the strengths of the team. For example, if you find that you are a much better designer than a writer, your blog post can play on being a visual post, rather than a text-heavy one. This will make the blogging a more enjoyable task that could (hopefully) encourage you to post more often.
