Collaboration is definitely something you should look into doing if you haven't pursued it previously. I actually see four levels of collaboration. The first is internal collaboration between your team (across locations and/or departments). The second is collaborating with your customers. It is always good to be close to your customers to get feedback and to ensure you are producing something they are actually interested in having. The third would be with another company in the sense of co-branding where you combine products or services from each company to make a stronger offering. The fourth type of collaboration is a deeper cross-company collaboration known as an actual partnership, alliance or even joint venture. This is where you actually put the resources of both companies together to create something entirely new that both companies have ownership of the final product. All great ways to collaborate.

Hi Jeff. Cannot agree more. When working with clients we always get the best when we are actually away from the business without work disruption.
Jef Lippiatt

I think disconnecting (from technology) and taking some time for yourself are wildly important. By taking a break to walk around in nature, relax at the beach or even just read a book that has nothing to do with your business (fiction is a great escape). You will be surprised that business ideas and breakthroughs happen while you are not focused on business at all. The brain needs down time to process more complex thoughts and problems in the background. Staring at the problem longer may not get you anywhere except more frustrated.

Chalk full of insights. I think that hiring but also the firing of the right people is important. I believe it is more important to fire disruptive, problematic employees than hiring the right employees (obviously you want the best and brightest). I do believe that the multi-lingual issue is going to become more important to adapt with in the near future.

Jef Lippiatt
Jef LippiattOwner at Startup Chucktown
Tracey, that is probably true. However, the money taboo needs be brought out in the open to lessen its mental impact on entrepreneurs. Many (if not close to all) entrepreneurs struggle with financial issues. That is why I also mentioned having a support network of other entrepreneurs. There are great places to connect with them such as, local chambers commerce, meetup groups, mastermind groups, and industry related groups. Most issues don't disappear by ignoring them. I think getting entrepreneurs to understand that you can only combat some issues through shared knowledge and transparency needs to be an area of focus. Another great way to avoid issues or at least mentally prepare for them is through mentorship. Having seasoned entrepreneurs and business professionals around you can alert you to their previous mistakes so you can avoid making them yourself.
