What are the best categories and listings to boost local SEO?

I have just started using Yellow.com SEO for 12 months - decided to go with a google partner. But I want to ask you:

  1. Category - is the “Retail” business category was the most appropriate one for us, considering we are an online multi-vendor marketplace (ie local Etsy). We look for ‘e-commerce’, ‘shopping', and/or ‘business services’ rather than retail. We don’t have a physical store, but some of our store’s products are also available in local stores.
  2. Listing - I wasn’t sure whether to focus on the shopping aspect of our marketplace or the local vendor/stores services we offer.

"Retail" remains in the world of 'bricks & mortar' for many, so if you are (as your site suggests), an on-line facilitator, leave the Retail category is fine for your vendors but you may be better served as a “business directory”.
Look to your Google Analytics to see what people are searching on to find you. If Retail is the category that yellow SEO is structuring their SEO service on, then it suggested that they may have failed to fully understand your business as a facilitator and therefore not tailored your campaign to achieve what you or your local listings are hoping for.
Study and review your last half dozen yellow SEO monthly reports to determine what search terms your site is being optimised for, and how they aligned to how you are marketing MRTC to new Vendors and the general public.
