Founder/owner of Max Gabriel which provides classic luxury business shirts to men sizes 46 to 52 via a boutique online store.

Mum of two, Max and Gabriella (hence my business's name), married and finding it harder and harder to fit everything into 24 hours.

Business came about when my gorgeous size 46 husband was promoted to the Executive Level, I wanted his work wear to reflect his ambition and salary. Very difficult to find any shirts in his size and quality so Max Gabriel was created.

How do you decide who to follow on social media?

This is something I became passionate about when researching my business.  I realised very quickly that I connected more with websites if I saw a photo of the owner on their About Us page.  It also added or detracted from their brand.  Which is why it is good sensible advice to have your profile photo taken professionally.

Sales and Marketing

How to choose an appropriate media for marketing a business?

For me I really took time to research where my target markets were and what they liked to do e.g. where they worked, what sports they liked and what kind of an income were they likely to have.

My target market is interesting in that I really have two.  I have the larger man that my luxury shirts are made for but then I also have their partners that buy their clothes or heavily influence what they wear.

My best result with marketing to date has been the radio.  Hope FM does very reasonable prices and their station reaches both my target markets, and that was proven with the sales I received during and after the four weeks.  At the moment I'm looking at advertising on 2GB during their drive times as I know for a fact a lot of my target market are trapped in their cars or public transport listening to their 'peeps' as I call them lol.

I also had some success with Google words, that really helped drive traffic to my website.  And getting all my friends to 'like' my Facebook business page also helped drive traffic and create some sales.

Hope some of this helps.

What are the things you do to make yourself more memorable?

Having a great elevator pitch is helpful too.  Making it smart, snappy and short.
Mine starts with "I make real men look hot!", reels them in every time and it is done with a bit of humour, no one likes people that take themselves to seriously.

Online Business

Is it necessary to have physical address for online business?

I have an online business and the address I give for customers is a PO Box.  Didn't want to broadcast to the world my home address.

Entrepreneurship

What does being an entrepreneur mean to you?

Hi Wendy
I never saw myself as one until someone pointed it out to me!  I always thought they were people like Richard Branson or Bill Gates, successful and genius.  But an entrepreneur is someone that go out into the world and creates their vision.  Sometimes successfully and sometimes not.  Doesn't matter, the fact is they grabbed the bull by the horns to see what would happen.
The other reason I never saw myself as one is quite simply because entrepreneur is a word I have a real problem pronouncing, I can entertain my husband for hours trying to say it correctly, sad but true.

Advertising

Has anyone used radio advertising?

Hi Wendy
I found radio advertising very successful for my business.  Hope radio station in Sydney is a Christian radio station that reached many of my target market in The Hills district as they were in their cars on the way to work or doing the school run.
In fact out of all the advertising it has been the best.  I ran ads on the back of buses for 3 months and got not one sale from that effort.  Hope radio is a good introduction as they have very reasonable rates compared to your bigger stations.  The money I spent was recouped with the sales that were generated.
Think where your target market are/live and then decide which is their radio station?  My target market are men and their partners sitting in their cars on their way to their office jobs or dropping the munchkins off at school so I only wanted my ads on during the morning and late afternoon.
Good luck!
