Should I use YouTube as the feed for my website video?

A question often asked is whether to use YouTube as the means to host a video on a client's website. There are some pros and cons that businesses have encountered when adopting this approach. Here are some of my thoughts: Firstly You Tube is free and well established. I recommend that you post your video on this site even it you are going to use alternate hosting. Unless you want your video...

Which is the best CRM software for a new company?

Hi Rachel,

For me Zoho - not perfect but it is fully featured and free for under 5 users:

https://www.zoho.com/

I use it to hold my contacts and manage my potentials. As a quality not quantity style of business I don't use the activities etc features. You need to determine what you want from it but avoid feeding the beast rather than engaging with opps.

Cheers,

Tips on how to choose the right corporate video producer

How do you choose a good corporate video producer? Search on the web and you will find a lot of production companies. A competitive market can work for you but how do you select one that will deliver? Here are some pointers from an insider. They are not in ranking order and some will matter more for you than others. Biggest revelation for new clients is that while filming is very important is jus...

How important is the National Broadband Network for businesses?

Hi Micha,

The NBN is critical to my business and future opportunities for growth. I run a corporate video production business and whereas in the old days clients came to our studio we now drop box edits for review. Without access to faster and more reliable broadband I will struggle to keep up with this and other trends. Other opportunities such as video hosting and offering services overseas will be limited.

Major fail for the Coalition. Malcolm Turnball has delivered a stinker of a policy - I think he knows it and we know it. Copper will fail (reliability is just as critical) so they will have come back to fibre - time and money will be wasted.

Do I do my corporate video myself or hire a professional?

I am a corporate video producer and a couple of weeks ago I wrote an article about promoting your corporate video once completed.  The comments said 'great' but a bit cart before the horse. The request was 'how do you get started and how do you choose a professional'. So I have written two articles about some of the pros and cons of internal as against external and a second one about things to co...

Should you let an accountant pick accounting software for you?

As an accountant and small business owner software should only be one of several evaluation points for choosing accountants. Some choices of software are expensive and not suitable for actually running the business whatever the accountants says. I had SAP phone me yesterday and I had to say frankly that they weren't never going to be on my list as too expensive and inflexible.

Unfortunately accounting software providers go in cycles - early promise and delivery followed by steep price rises . MYOB was fantastic in its early days, then they discovered that they could charge for everything and did. I chose Saasu three years and it has been good. Recently they changed their pricing structure and I am back to doing our small payroll manually. Sometimes they just don't get it.  Sounds like Xero would worth a look.

Is Google AdWords giving you a good return on investment?

Hi,

Didn't work for me. What happened was:

Job requests

'Column fodder' - Companies wanting quotes but already decided on their chosen supplier and often quite unethical

Cost driven - never a happy place to play in

No issue with the service provider - worked hard and professional but they all confuse ranking in Google with sales. For some businesses this is the case but not for mine - corporate video production.

A business needs to assess its fundamentals. I always have a personal relationship with my buyers and this means impersonal IT searches are not the best way to start that relationship. For other businesses eg Winnings with white goods the Google ranking is critical to their competitive position.

The internet is not the answer to all questions.

Cheers,

Stephen
