How To Attract Young Marketing Talent For A Small Business?

An ideal way to attract young marketing talent for a small organisation is to give them ownership of the marketing strategy and tactics for the organisation. Unlike larger organisations where there may be a hierarchy of managers and/or red tape, giving a young professional the chance to take charge and drive the marketing for a business is giving them the opportunity to build on their resume, skills and portfolio that may not be possible in a larger organisation.

Also, providing them with the opportunity for professional development is also a great way to attract young marketing talent. For example, if a young marketing professional wants to up-skill in the area of public relations and media relations, organise for them to have one-on-one training with a PR professional or pay for them to attend an industry conference.

Do I need a business plan?

A business plan is very important. It provides structure, acts as a point of reference and much more.

However, I also believe that it's important, particularly for small businesses and start-ups, to not get too caught up with getting that business plan perfect before you start acting. Ideas, concepts and strategies change over time, and that change usually comes about through trial and error. It's ideal to go out and test the market and see if there is a real need for a business, service, product or concept. Then you can regularly check in with your business plan and adjust accordingly.

How can I drive traffic to my website?

Another way to drive traffic to your website is to conduct an online PR campaign. There are a number of ways this could be done depending on your business. A PR campaign doesn't need to be costly. There are a number of 'DIY PR' options out there. Through your online PR campaign, not only will you drive people to your website but you will also receive added brand credibility that having media exposure brings.
